Research

My research has focused on Data Warehouse technology, with particular interest on issues like Data Warehouse Metadata Repositories and Metadata Modeling, Data Warehouse Quality, On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP), and Extraction-Transformation-Loading (ETL). Current research activities place a particular emphasis in the area of ETL.

Apart from the data warehousing field, my on-going research includes topics like the modeling of the architecture, the management of the evolution of databases & information systems, the identification of design metrics and the construction of design patterns for these environments. The primary construct for this research is the notion of Architecture Graph that acts a the blueprint for the internal structure of a database-centric information system.

In the context of working with Architecture Graphs, I have established a joint UoI-NTUA project, Hecataeus, that explores the effect of database evolution to its surrounding "ecosystem" (i.e., to applications, forms, reports, stored procedures, etc). My current research activities place a particular emphasis in the area of database evolution, too.

Finally, I am also interested in web services and related middleware technologies. Some first results for communities of mobile peers that communicate via web services have been obtained in the context of the DIACHEO project.

Experience with R&D prior to academic appointment

I have worked for DataBlue Greece, during 1995 and 1996. I have also worked for several ESPRIT (ALEXANDER, TOOBIS, DWQ) and IST projects (PANDA, EDITH). Other research projects include project "Object-Oriented Model for the representation of multimedia and multimedia applications" (PENED 95ÅÄ3.3.2-564) and project "Data Quality in Decision Support Systems" under the French-Greek Cooperation Programme "Plato", for NTUA and the General Secretariat of Research and Technology of Greece . Moreover, I have worked in applied projects, such as "Ippokratis", for Datablue Greece and "Technical Support for the General Accounting Office of the Greek Ministry of Finance for Database Issues" for ICCS-NTUA.
