Christos is an adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Ioannina, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering and an adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Western Macedonia, Dept. Engineering Informatics and Telecommunications. He is an Assistant Professor elect in Decision Support and Knowledge Discovery systems at the International Hellenic University, School of Science & Technology. He also acts as external moderator for the Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham Business School.

Studies

He holds a DEng(Hons) in Computer Engineering and Informatics (5 year studies) from the Department of Computer Engineering & Informatics at the University of Patras, and a BSc(Hons) in Law (4 year studies) from the Law School at the Democritus University of Thrace, in Greece. He also holds an MPhil in Computation from UMIST and a PhD in Informatics from the University of Manchester, U.K.

Research

His focal research area is data mining, decision support and software engineering, and his aim is to advance the use of data mining in domains such as programming languages and novel types of heterogeneous data. His research interests are in the areas of data, code and text mining, and software maintenance and quality, where he has published widely. His research objectives include bridging the gap between theories and applications of data mining, accelerating and increasing the effectiveness of software maintenance and reducing its costs by improving quality and facilitating evolution as well as establishing novel ways of retrieving information from text and source code.

Publications

He published over 40 papers in international referred journals and conferences, focusing on data mining algorithms, such as clustering, classification and association rules, and data mining applications in domains, such as software engineering, medicine and biology. His work has been published in journals including Data & Knowledge Engineering, Methods of Information in Medicine, Information Systems Frontiers, Int’l Journal of Data Mining and Bioinformatics, Applied Artificial Intelligence and Int'l conferences such as IEEE ICTAI, IEEE ITAB, IEEE COMPSAC, IEEE APSEC, IEEE IWPC, CSMR and IDEAL. Research projects

Christos led a number of research projects on software quality assurance using data mining, as well as on strategic maintenance and evolution of software. He was also involved as a principal investigator or co-investigator in a number of software and knowledge management projects. Christos led the University of Manchester's involvement with the EPSRC funded Service-Oriented Software Research Network (SOSoRNet). He was a collaborator with the National Centre of Text Mining (NaCTeM). He co-organized the Service-enabled Collaborative Enterprises- Joint event and organized the 1st SOSoRNet workshop, a special session at IEEE CSMR 07 and a session at CSMR 09. He was Program co-Chair at CSMR 08, Industrial Track Chair at CSMR 11, and guest editor for the Journal of Software Maintenance and Evolution: Research and Practice. He served as PC member in over 50 international conferences.

Research Supervision

Christos supervised a number of PhD, MPhil, MSc and final year students. .
